About the Business
Roofer Brad Ascroft got into roofing after chatting to a roofer he met on a bike ride in the country not long after leaving Tarleton High School. The roofer liked Brad, offered to train him and allowed him to work part-time on his own jobs.
That was in 2003 and Brad, now a father and family man, has never looked back, employing two full-time staff, James Cooper and Dan Steele (both seen with Brad above),
He aims to be friendly, focused and flexible, and his clients include S & I Developments of Croston, Primrose Holdings, Chorley, for whom he does housing association work, and local builders such as Ash Joinery, David Prew and developers SA Estates.
Brad is a specialist in slate roofing, using Welsh or Spanish slates for repairs, re-roofs and new-build roofs. Slating represents the largest area of his business. He also repairs church roofs, such as St Leonard’s C of E Church, Penwortham, or historic properties, using reclaimed slates to ensure a perfect match with existing slates.
Brad believes GRP provides the most robust solution for flat roofs. GRP (glass reinforced plastic) is another name for fibreglass and was developed in 1938 for use in insulation. It is extremely durable, versatile, strong and waterproof, making it ideal for roofs, particularly flat roofs. GRP is highly adaptable, allowing conversion of the roof area to include features such as balconies or walkways. Roof lights can also be added and it is also suitable for bay windows.
